{Breathe} Mindful Monday: Savor the Ordinary Moments

2

Last week I shared the importance of hitting pause from time to time. Really, we should make this a regular practice. When we pause we are more present in the moment, but the exercise does not stop there. Once we pause we also need to savor. Savor the beauty of that moment even if it is fairly mundane. Life becomes wildly beautiful and meaningful when you are able to appreciate otherwise “normal” moments for all the loveliness that exists in them. For this week’s intention, pick a rather mundane moment that occurs regularly in your life and pause to find the beauty in it. Pause to feel gratitude. I am feeling excited just thinking about this! {Katie’s Picks} Relaxation

katies-picks-relaxationRelax…it’s your time.

When I think back to my childhood, I have been over scheduled since I was around 6 years old. I started gymnastics when I was 3 or 4 and was competing by the time I was 6. I was always trying to find the balance between school and long hours at the gym all the while fitting in time to sleep and well…be a kid! Old habits are hard to break and my adult life was looking very similar! I was working a ton which became even more overwhelming once I had my son, Hudson, now 4 years old. The genesis of this blog was the realization that something need to shift. I need to take care of myself more and really commit to finding balance.  After a year and half of feeling unwell and many too many doctors visits that left me without answers and more stressed out– I was (finally) diagnosed with Lyme Disease and Adrenal Fatigue when I found an integrative and functional medicine doctor that would actually listen to me. Dedicated to getting better, I decided to take control of my health and that meant more than what I ate (though my diet is a very important component). Finding the time to care for myself has become a major priority and rightfully so! I can’t do anything well (including work or being a mom) if I am not well! I now make time self-care in the form of  intention setting, acupuncture, massage, yoga, meditation, baths, and just general relaxation so that I give my body a chance to heal and my racing mind some time to rest and regroup! A little self-love goes a long way! Here are my picks for things that help me calm!  Continue reading “{Katie’s Picks} Relaxation”

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love & affection.” ~Buddha

As a mom, I understand how natural and joyful it feels to shower my child with love but, sadly, it can also feel very natural to put other peoples needs before my own. Being a mother is the most rewarding part of my day and I am truly grateful for my wonderful son but that does not mean that motherhood is easy or stress-free! It is the hardest job I have and in order to succeed at being a good mom I know I must first love and care for myself.
