{Nourish} Everyday Herb Oils

DIY Herb Oils Around this time of year, my herb garden begins to take on a life of its own. In other words, it’s out of control and then I feel out of control  because seriously, what am I supposed to do with all of those herbs!? I used to get totally freaked out at the thought of wasting them. It felt like such a loss. The same loss I feel when a bunch of purchased, fresh herbs begin to look weepy and abandoned in my fridge. Well, weep no more. This everyday herb oil may be my all-time favorite kitchen hack/cooking tip.
I honestly can’t remember what gave me the idea to make large batches of herb oil–maybe it was my go-to ritual of making and freezing pesto to use up my basil bounty. What ever it was, I am grateful because these herb oils have become the foundation of so many recipes. The possibilities are endless.

{Nourish} Roasted Carrots with Honey and Basil

Roasted Carrots Honey and BasilConsidering the amazing response I received from the best ever Chocolate Cashew Butter Zucchini Muffins I posted last week, I considered changing the blog to an “all chocolate, all the time” deal! We can dream, right! And, while this recipe may be a far cry from ooey, gooey chocolate muffins, it is deliciously sweet. I have to laugh, I feel like my kitchen has become my own personal episode of top chef each week as I am determined to cook every damn thing in my CSA share. Maybe that should be a reality TV show–cook away your CSA. I know I am not the first to feel inspired yet challenged by this task. Yes, there are still a few zucchini hanging out in the fridge but that feels more manageable now. The carrots on the other hand, sheesh. I have been holding off cooking them as they have a bit more staying power then all of a sudden I realized there were three bunches piled up, begging to be eaten. Behold, Roasted Carrots with Honey and Basil. Continue reading “{Nourish} Roasted Carrots with Honey and Basil”

{Breathe} Mindful Monday: Celebrating Light and Love

summer solstice yoga loveToday is the summer solstice and tomorrow is International Yoga Day and that is not a coincidence. The summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year, has a spiritual meaning for many cultures and it is thought that on this day, the first yogi began sharing the knowledge of yoga with others. Oh, and if all of that was not exciting enough, there is going to be a rare Full Strawberry Moon tonight! What’s a strawberry moon? I had no idea though it sounds kinda delicious and I giggled with Hudson at the idea that maybe we could look up to the sky tonight and see a strawberry instead of the moon.  But seriously, a Strawberry Moon, also known as a Full Rose Moon, which sounds equally as lovely, was named by the Algonquin tribes as they thought it was a signal to gather ripening fruit. I love this! Full Moon + Strawberry Moon + Summer Solstice + Yoga = a gaggle of good vibes if you ask me. So let’s dive into what all of this really means celebrate the beauty of all of this goodness. Continue reading “{Breathe} Mindful Monday: Celebrating Light and Love”

{Nourish} Grilled Fruits and Veggies Round-Up

Grilled Fruits and Vegetables @katiecavutoRD

Father’s day is this weekend! Like many dads, mine is a grilling machine. That’s his happy place in “the kitchen”. Sure, you can grill-up a batch of BBQ chicken or sausage (staples at my parents house) or you can add some inspiration to the menu this year! Meats are a go-to grill option but fruits and vegetables should not be ignored. The grill has a wonderful way of caramelizing the natural sugars of the ingredients. That being said, I rounded up grilled fruit and vegetable recipes that will pair perfectly with the Summer Grilling Main Dish Round-Up we posted last week.  Continue reading “{Nourish} Grilled Fruits and Veggies Round-Up”

{Nourish} Summer Grilling Recipe Round-up

Summer Grilling Recipe Round Up @katiecavutoRDThis is a first. I am having recipe/life envy as a result of this post. You see, when I moved last year, one of the things I gave up was (sigh) outdoor space and a grill. Ugh. It pains me every day. The woes of city living…though I love my new digs. The outdoor space issue rarely feels problematic as there are three parks within two-three blocks of my house. The grill on the other hand. I crave it this time of year. Sure, I resort to using my grill pan but we all know that it just isn’t the same. That being said, I will assume that most of you have a grill and for the record– I want you to know that I would be happy to come grill-out at your house anytime (hint, hint). I’ll cook!?  In the meantime, here is a round-up of grilling recipes to get your creative juices flowing. I even included one of my own. Using my grill-pan, of course!

{Nourish} Roasted Cod with Strawberries

Roasted Cod with Strawberries

Strawberries, strawberries, strawberries! Hooray for strawberry season! I love incorporating fruit into savory recipes and fruit and fish–they are a match made in heaven! Does the thought of cooking fish freak you out? I spend a good part of my week cooking with my clients and I have found that many people are freaked out about cooking fish! They love fish. They often order it when they are out to eat but they completely avoid cooking fish at home. This kills me because cooking fish is really easy–I promise. Especially when you roast it. You can have dinner on the table in 15 minutes–what could be easier than that? Continue reading “{Nourish} Roasted Cod with Strawberries”
