{Breathe} How to Find Gratitude in the Things That Feel Hard

Journal This: How Can You Bring Gratitude to the Things That Feel Hard?

Twice today, I was in discussion about gratitude but we weren’t talking about sunshine or flowers or a roof over our head. We were bringing gratitude to the moments in our lives that have brought us to our knees because these are the moments that have cleared the path to truly show us the way. {Thrive} Mindful Monday: Daring Greatly

“What would you be glad you did–even if you failed?” Brené Brown

So, a pretty big thing happened a week or so ago. I had the opportunity to do a cooking segment on Good Morning America. Yeah, it was a big deal. When we pause we are more present in the moment, but the exercise does not stop there. Once we pause we also need to savor. Savor the beauty of that moment even if it is fairly mundane. Life becomes wildly beautiful and meaningful when you are able to appreciate otherwise “normal” moments for all the loveliness that exists in them. For this week’s intention, pick a rather mundane moment that occurs regularly in your life and pause to find the beauty in it. Pause to feel gratitude. I am feeling excited just thinking about this! {Thrive} Setting Intentions for Health & Self Love

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection” – Buddha

When I first graduated from graduate school and became a dietitian I was armed and motivated to teach people how to count calories, diet and omit foods from their diet. I learned, quite quickly that this approach simply exacerbated negative emotions and self-talk. Though my own journey and my work with clients I have found that the foundation of a healthy lifestyle is less about your food choices and more about self-love.
