{Breathe} 6 Tips for Better Sleep

How to Sleep Better @katiecavutordI loathe the days that I wake up pining for more sleep. Sleepless nights leave me feeling cranky and foggy and generally ick. While these symptoms are offensive on their own, it’s important to note that our health can suffer when our sleep is constantly disrupted. Studies show that chronic poor sleep is associated with an increased risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, depression, anxiety and more. Honestly, it’s no wonder we have a tough time getting good Zzzzz’s as we’re stressed out, over-stimulated and often over-fed. Fortunately, there are some simple changes you can make to dramatically change your sleep patterns and most second as self-care rituals which is never a bad thing.  Continue reading “{Breathe} 6 Tips for Better Sleep”

{Breathe} Mindful Monday: Stop. Take One Mindful Breath. Revel in its Goodness.

the power of taking a deep breath. meditationI was recently reminded  how powerful one simple breath can be. I was in the middle of my work day. Crazed, of course. I happened to pop onto instagram to post a recent blog picture and this prompt appeared in my feed: “Pause. Look up from your phone. Breathe In.” Unflinchingly, I obeyed. I put my phone down. I closed my eyes. I took one purposeful breath and the energy around me shifted in a magical way. I was calm. Continue reading “{Breathe} Mindful Monday: Stop. Take One Mindful Breath. {Katie’s Picks} Relaxation

katies-picks-relaxationRelax…it’s your time.

When I think back to my childhood, I have been over scheduled since I was around 6 years old. I started gymnastics when I was 3 or 4 and was competing by the time I was 6. I was always trying to find the balance between school and long hours at the gym all the while fitting in time to sleep and well…be a kid! Old habits are hard to break and my adult life was looking very similar! I was working a ton which became even more overwhelming once I had my son, Hudson, now 4 years old. The genesis of this blog was the realization that something need to shift. I need to take care of myself more and really commit to finding balance.  After a year and half of feeling unwell and many too many doctors visits that left me without answers and more stressed out– I was (finally) diagnosed with Lyme Disease and Adrenal Fatigue when I found an integrative and functional medicine doctor that would actually listen to me. Dedicated to getting better, I decided to take control of my health and that meant more than what I ate (though my diet is a very important component). Finding the time to care for myself has become a major priority and rightfully so! I can’t do anything well (including work or being a mom) if I am not well! I now make time self-care in the form of  intention setting, acupuncture, massage, yoga, meditation, baths, and just general relaxation so that I give my body a chance to heal and my racing mind some time to rest and regroup! A little self-love goes a long way! Here are my picks for things that help me calm!  Continue reading “{Katie’s Picks} Relaxation”
