{Thrive} Mindful Moment: Is Eating Before Bed Bad?

I’m excited to introduce a new line of posts, Mindful Moments, that are meant to provide quick and simple tips to help your tune into your wellness routine. This tip has to do with eating before bed – a question I get quite often. I was going to say late-night eating but considering I’m light’s out by 9:30-10 these days, that doesn’t really apply to me unless we redefine late-night as 8pm. Who’s with me?  Continue reading “{Thrive} Mindful Moment: Is Eating Before Bed Bad?”

{Thrive} Tired of Dieting? Try This.

When is the last time you truly tasted your food? Seriously. Think on that one for a minute. A hazy memory of the first bite of your last meal doesn’t qualify. There is very little enjoyment in that. Have you ever considered why you choose to eat a certain food? While there are many answers to this question, the number one reason tends to be taste. Yet, we rarely taste our food! Our fast paced lives have caused many of us to disengage and this includes our eating experiences. Fortunately, we can always make the choice to be present. We can bring the joy back to our tables and we can start right now; here’s how.  Continue reading “{Thrive} Tired of Dieting? Try This.”

{Thrive} 3 Reasons You Should Throw Out Your Scale

Why I Don't Weigh Myself We are nearing the end of January which means your New Years Resolution may be waning a bit. That’s okay. It happens to most of us. And you’re in luck because I have a better idea for you. It’s more achievable action than resolution. Stop weighing yourself. I want you to throw out your scale. Today. You could even set it on fire if that feels more compelling. It does to me but I am all about the big farewell when it comes to your scale. Wouldn’t that feel good? How freeing! Seriously, unleash your fury on this small but mighty metric that has ridiculed you for too long. Evict it from your life…never to be seen again. Your scale deserves to die a horrible death for the way it has been making you feel. Frustrated. Ashamed. Inadequate. Defeated. I am going to let you in on a little secret. You are none of these things. You are beautiful and worthy and enough. No matter the number. Not convinced? Scared to let it go? I get it. The act of weighing ourselves can become a nasty habit that is really hard to break. That isn’t a reason to hold on to it though. Weighing yourself doesn’t serve you in a positive way. Are  you are ready to be well and healthy, from the inside out? This is a great first step. It’s time to take back the control. To take back your self-worth. It’s time to throw out your scale. Here’s why: Continue reading “{Thrive} 3 Reasons You Should Throw Out Your Scale”

{Breathe} Mindful Monday: The Most Magical Moment

mindful mondayIt is 7:30 on this lovely Monday evening and I am connecting with all of you in real time. I am currently sitting on my hotel balcony in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida after a 3 hour drive from Orlando this afternoon. I am meeting with the Phillies tomorrow to help with planning for the new Dominican League training center.  Pretty fun, right!

In between sentences I am forcing myself to gaze up. The sun is painting the sky many magical shades of pink. The mere existence of the calm gulf waters is soothing and such a treat. As I write I am reminding myself  to appreciate the beauty of these moments as they are far from ordinary. I made it a point to walk down to the beach, if only for a few minutes. I snuggled my naked toes into the sand and connected with the moment as my city life does not warrant that on a regular basis. Continue reading “{Breathe} Mindful Monday: The Most Magical Moment”

Thoughtfully setting intentions is a great way to stay present, achieve your goals and foster gratitude while you’re at it. Healthy habits can feel overwhelming when you have lofty expectations. {Mindful Monday}: I Don’t Like Kale — Eek!

What should I eat if I don't like kale?Actually, I do like kale but I have many clients who don’t. They often admit this to me within the first five minute of a conversation. It goes something like this: “I have been trying really hard to eat better– but I don’t like kale”. Then this look of failure washes across their face. Conversely, I usually giggle a bit and them give them a hug. Why? Because it is 100% OKAY to not like kale. Loving kale does not win you a healthy eating gold medal. Not even close.
