{Thrive} Mindful Monday: A Month of Self-Love Part One: Compassion

YOU ARE NOT A DROP IN THE OCEAN

Translation: You are amazing and you deserve a whole lot of Love. Yes, love. Considering this is the theme of the month I figured we should kick it off with a hearty dose of self L…O…V…E…LOVE! I’ll admit, the mere thought of self-love used to seem utterly impossible to me. I would shudder at the idea. I had a tough time embracing my self-worth and often found that the critical, really nasty voice in my head won most of the time. I share this because I know how it feels to constantly judge yourself and I know how difficult it can be to change that cycle of negative self-talk. I also know that you CAN do it. You can truly love yourself. Here is the first step. Compassion. Continue reading “{Thrive} Mindful Monday: A Month of Self-Love Part One: Compassion”

{Thrive} Mindful Monday: Celebrating Random Acts of Kindness

Random Acts of Kindness

Tomorrow is “Giving Tuesday” which is a day dedicated to giving back. While many people translate this day–in the midst of the holiday shopping hoopla–into a prompt to purchase gifts that “give back”(a great thing might I add)–I think it can be even more. A simple act of kindness is a great way to “give” and truly speaks to the spirit of the holidays. This year, in our house, we turned our Christmas countdown calendar into a kindness calendar. Instead of toys, treats and trinkets– each day we are reminded of an act of kindness (and encouraged to do it, of course!) My challenge for all of you on this “Mindful Monday” is to re-invent “Giving Tuesday”. Wake up tomorrow with the intention to be kind all day–in many ways! What a wonderful way to give and to remain centered in the true meaning of the holiday season! Continue reading “{Thrive} Mindful Monday: Celebrating Random Acts of Kindness”

{Breathe} Mindful Monday: Savor the Ordinary Moments

Last week I shared the importance of hitting pause from time to time. Really, we should make this a regular practice. When we pause we are more present in the moment, but the exercise does not stop there. Once we pause we also need to savor. Savor the beauty of that moment even if it is fairly mundane. Life becomes wildly beautiful and meaningful when you are able to appreciate otherwise “normal” moments for all the loveliness that exists in them. For this week’s intention, pick a rather mundane moment that occurs regularly in your life and pause to find the beauty in it. Pause to feel gratitude. I am feeling excited just thinking about this! {Breathe} Pause to be Thankful + DIY Gratitude Jar

Life can be fast paced and full of challenges which is all the more reason to make time from daily gratitude. Happiness is a choice. I continue to learn this lesson over and over again and remind myself of this point regulary when things get nutty. We can choose to find joy in the most difficult of times. We can be grateful for the simply fact that we are experiencing emotion–because the ability to experience emotion is a benefit of living. The now famous quote from Stephen Hawking “However bad life may seem, where there is life, there is hope”, seems to sum this up as there is inherent gratitude in simply being alive!
