{Thrive} Better Beauty + Must Have Products

Today’s Mindful Monday post is a bit of a departure from past topics though it is equally as important. Mindfulness is a useful tool for so many aspects of our lives include the beauty products we choose to use for ourselves and our children. In the US, the personal care industry is not regulated. The result, companies are allowed to use a slew of toxic chemicals in beauty products and they do not have to disclose this information. These toxins have been know to cause allergies, diseases including cancer. Fortunately, consumers are asking more questions and demanding products that they can feel safe using. {Katie’s Picks} Fermented Foods

By now you are probably familiar with the term “probiotic” and why they are so important. Probiotics are healthy bacteria and yeast that support your digestive tract, immune system and more. Sadly, due a poor diets that are high in sugar and processed foods along with the overuse of antibiotics and anti-bacterial everything–the healthy bacteria in our gut can be depleted (sad face). Not to worry, a diet rich in vegetables (another reason to gobble them up)–which contain prebiotic fibers that feed the healthy bacteria–and the inclusion of fermented foods can help to right your system. Sure, you can take a probiotic supplement –and this may be a good idea– but it is more fun to eat your way to better health, right?  Here are my picks for good-for-you probiotic rich fermented foods.  You might be amazed at the diversity of the offerings and that is good thing because you are more likely to find a product or two that is enjoyable to you! {Katie’s Picks} Clean Eating Veggie Burgers

Another holiday weekend is upon us and, for many, that means firing up the grill! Even though I am an omnivore I enjoy sinking my teeth into a super taste veggie burger from time to time to mix things up a bit! Sadly, just because a veggie burger is meat free it is generally perceived as healthy–but that is not always the case! Many veggies burgers bare ingredient lists loaded with highly processed, non-food ingredients. Choose quality first and opt for brands that use whole foods and ingredients you would use to make ’em yourself! Circle back to our post on Conscious Living Tips for more information on clean eating and reading labels. In the meantime, I did the work for you and rounded up a variety of veggie burgers that are both nutritious and delicious! Happy Grilling! {Katie’s Picks} Toxin-Free Lunch Bins, Bottles, Boxes + More

It’s back-to-school week here on the blog! If you are just tuning in make sure to check out the previous posts this week which include my clean-eating snack picks and lunch packing guide! Today’s post is all about Eco-friendly boxes, bins, bottles and other goodies that will make your kiddo’s lunch super-cool and toxin free. Sure, you may spend a bit more money upfront to purchase these items but they pay for themselves quickly (consider how much you spend on plastic baggies, juice boxes, and disposable lunch bags)! This is simply a sampling of some of my favorite items which I use for my entire family (not just my little guy). I encourage you to take time to explore the offerings from each brand as most have a number of awesome products! A few notable picks are the silicone Popsicle molds which can second as a packable yogurt and smoothie container. Silicone muffin tins work well to house and seperate items in bento box lunch containers like those listed below.
