{Breathe} Mindful Monday: How Gratitude Can Curb Weight Gain


It’s the perfect time of year to embrace the joy of living and eating. Yes, eating can and should be joyful, no matter the time of year. And yet, we count calories and sips of eggnog, and torture ourselves with a guilt-laden combination of weigh-ins and self-loathing. There is nothing joyous about it.

To find the joy, shift your intentions away from weight-loss and the number on scale and focus on nourishing your body instead. When you strive to create a nourishing plate of food, you naturally crowd out less-nourishing foods without feeling deprived. You’ll feel quite empowered. Positive intentions create positive results.

{Breathe} Mindful Monday: Surrender Box

At the end of the year I plan to excitedly dive my hands into the bounty of our gratitude jar– we started it this past New Years Day in an effort to keep our focus on the many moments, big and small, that bless our lives each day.  Our notes of gratitude have acted as a year long reminder of the joys in our lives. I continue to love this concept and we will most likely continue the tradition in 2016 but, this got me thinking about other ways one could utilize this idea and after a little research I found what I was looking for. 10 Days of #Gratitude

There are only ten days left until Thanksgiving and considering recent international events and the upcoming holiday (and my general love for choosing joy every.single.day) I felt this was as good a time as any to focus on gratitude.  I hope you will join me over the next few days (ten to be exact) that lead up to Thanksgiving. I will be sharing a daily note of gratitude as well as a few inspiring quotes and thoughts to get you in the spirit. {Breathe} Mindful Monday: The Power of Hitting Pause

30cf3d9ea014196346a8e66b9b938576I spent this past weekend in one of the most beautiful places–a friends farm in Newport. When I first arrived I had the same reaction I usually do. I thought, “Wow, this is truly a magical place”. Then, as the day progressed, I realized that I was not taking the time to truly appreciate the beauty of the space. I would get lost looking at my phone or simply flowing through my day as if it were any day. Fortunately, I reminded myself to hit the pause button and gently bring myself back to the beauty of the present moment so that I could truly take it all in. In moments like this, I am reminded of the importance of hitting pause. You see, the pause button is not just to be used in magical or beautiful moments–because we tend to be better at slowing down in those circumstances. The pause button becomes truly important in our day-t0-day lives as it gives us the opportunity to refocus so we are able to see the beauty that exists in every moment.
