{Nourish} Salted Chocolate Avocado and Almond Butter Mousse
{Sponsored} Are you scrunching your nose at the idea of an avocado mousse? Well rest assured because this dessert is so good I swayed a classroom of doubting preschoolers with its chocolaty decadence. Desserts are not my thing. We know this. I would rather have potato chips. That was until this Chocolate Avocado Mousse came into my life. It’s a game-changer. I know it sounds weird but trust me, it is wildly delicious. It’s also ridiculously easy to make which, if you haven’t caught on, is must in my book. The foundation is nothing more than a few, whole food ingredients and it will be ready to eat in less than 5 minutes. Grab a spoon and line up by the blender — it may never make it to the bowl.
Avocados. I already had a love affair with this fruit and then they became a chocolate mousse. I mean really. As if an avocado needed any more praise. Rich in antioxidants and healthy fats, those over-ripe avocados that your considering tossing would be perfect for this dish. And speaking of over-ripe avocados, did you know you can freeze the flesh? I was thrilled when I learned this trick because there is a very small window between rock-hard, inedible avocado the perfectly ripe, ready to eat version. It can be maddening. On the flip-side, isn’t it magical when you cut into a perfect avocado? Talk about food gratitude…
Then there is this chocolate mousse. I have been making a variation of this for a few years now but this version, which boasts the addition of creamy almond butter and sea salt, was inspired by the Salted Decadence Curate Bar. This bar gains it’s appeal from the crave-worthy combo of salted chocolate, almond butter, quinoa and hemp seeds which make it wholesome and delicious.
Made with a few simple whole food ingredients, this mousse is naturally gluten-free, dairy-free and very satisfying. Rich and creamy, the ripe avocado is combined with almond butter, unsweetened cocoa powder and real maple syrup to create a decadent dessert that pairs perfectly with fresh berries.

- 2 ripe avocados, peel removed
- 2 tablespoons almond butter
- 2/3 cup real maple syrup
- ½ cup unsweetened dark cocoa powder
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt plus 1/8 teaspoon coarse sea salt for garnish
- In a blender, combine the avocado, almond butter, maple syrup, cocoa powder, vanilla extract and ¼ teaspoon of salt. Blend to combine. Garnish with coarse sea salt.
- Serve with fresh berries
OMG! This looks like a fun one to make with the girls.
So fun! Especially if it gets messy 🙂
This looks so rich and creamy and delicious! I’m not even a big pudding/mousse fan, but I think this might change my mind!
Seriously — it has that potential! 🙂
WOW! I think this is definitely being added to my Christmas dessert menu.
Nice! I haven’t met a person yet who doesn’t love this mousse, it will be a hit for your guests!!
This looks amazing! I love the combination of chocolate with a little salt!
Thanks, Steph! I am much more of a savory person than sweets so for me the addition of salt really balances out that sweet/savory profile that I love. 🙂
I finally made brownies with avocados and they were delicious, so I can imagine how good this must be, especially with the addition of almond butter and maple syrup! Looks easy too!
Incredibly easy! Love the addition of avocado to the brownies — recipe?! 😉
This is such an interesting combo, I need to try it out! I love the creamy addition avocados give to smoothies, so I can imagine they do the same here.
Yes! The avocado gives it a beautiful creamy richness 🙂
